Valerie
I’ve been tutoring A-Level History for six years, mainly working with students who know the content but struggle to turn it into a strong essay. I spend a lot of time on argument, evidence and getting introductions to actually answer the question. Modern European history is probably my favourite area to teach. Closer to exams, I like using timed plans and past papers so students become comfortable making decisions quickly.

Hi! I’m a History tutor with four years of experience helping A-Level students online. I was the sort of student who could happily read about the Tudors for hours, so teaching the subject came quite naturally to me. Lessons are fairly relaxed, but we do plenty of essay practice. I’m particularly useful if you find source questions confusing or have lots of knowledge but aren't sure what the examiner actually wants you to do with it.

Dalton
I have taught A-Level History for over a decade, including several years in a secondary school classroom. My main interests are twentieth-century European history and international relations. Much of my tutoring focuses on analytical writing: selecting relevant evidence, weighing different interpretations and sustaining an argument across an essay. I also work through past papers regularly, particularly with students approaching their final examinations.

Peter
History made much more sense to me once I stopped treating it as a subject where you simply memorise dates. That is something I try to pass on in my A-Level lessons. I’ve tutored for five years and particularly enjoy teaching the Cold War and modern British history. We’ll often take one essay question, talk through what it is really asking, then build the argument together before writing. It’s simple, practical and usually much less daunting.

Damian
My background is in historical research, and I started tutoring A-Level History alongside postgraduate study seven years ago. I particularly enjoy working with students on interpretations and source evaluation, where small changes in the way evidence is handled can make a substantial difference. I’m quite methodical in lessons and often annotate essays with students line by line. My specialist interests include imperial history and nineteenth-century Britain.

Alexia
I’ve worked with A-Level History students for three years, mostly through one-to-one online lessons. My favourite sessions are usually the ones where we pull apart a difficult essay title and realise there are three or four perfectly sensible ways to argue it. I teach a lot of European and Russian history, but essay technique is where I’m most useful. I’m also happy to be quite picky about paragraphs, because vague topic sentences can cost surprisingly many marks.
